Not sure if you need to undertake a Certification or Verification audit?
Find out moreThe NDIS Commission requires providers to undergo either a Certification Audit or a Verification Audit, depending on the complexity and risk level of the supports they deliver.
While Certification is for higher-risk, more complex services, Verification is designed for lower-risk providers such as sole traders and professionals delivering therapeutic or support services.
If you’re delivering lower-risk services, you may only need a Verification Audit and that process looks a little different.

How do I register as a NDIS provider?
To register as a NDIS provider, you need to determine your service type, review the NDIS Practice Standards, and prepare required documentation.
After submitting your application via the NDIS Commission Portal, engage an approved auditor for a verification or certification audit.
Once the audit is complete, the NDIS Commission will review your application, and if successful, you’ll be registered to deliver NDIS-funded services. Regular compliance maintenance is required.
What is the difference between NDIS certification and verification?
The certification and verification audits are two different types of NDIS audits that providers undergo as part of the NDIS registration process. The type of audit required depends on the type and complexity of the services being provided.
Verification Audit:
Applies to providers delivering low-risk services or lower complexity services. These are generally less intensive in nature and do not require high levels of participant interaction or complex care.
Examples of services that typically fall under verification include:
- Cleaning and household maintenance
- Gardening
- Therapeutic supports (for individual practitioners)
- Plan management
Certification Audit:
Required for providers offering higher-risk or more complex services that directly impact participants’ health, safety, or wellbeing.
Examples of services requiring certification include:
- Daily personal activities
- Specialist disability accommodation (SDA)
- High-intensity daily personal activities
- Support Coordination
- Supported Independent Living (SIL)
What are the NDIS Practice Standards and how do they affect my business?
The NDIS Practice Standards are a set of guidelines and requirements that outline the quality and safety standards NDIS providers must meet when delivering services to participants.
These standards are designed to ensure that providers offer high-quality, person-centered support while safeguarding the rights and well-being of NDIS participants.
How much does NDIS registration cost?
The cost of becoming an NDIS registered provider can vary due to a number of different factors inclusive but not exclusive to; the type of audit (certification versus verification), size of your organisation, number of sites and registration groups included in your application.
Once you have applied to become a registered provider and obtained your Initial Scope of Audit, it is a good idea to seek quotes from a few different auditing bodies and get a feel for the level of customer service offered by each.
What evidence or documentation do I need for my NDIS audit?
To successfully pass your audit, you will need a variety of documents inclusive of policies, procedures, reports etc., tailored to your organisation.
We provide a detailed NDIS audit checklist to ensure you’re fully prepared.
How long does the NDIS audit process take?
The time it takes depends on your preparation and the availability of the certified auditing body (CAB) you select.
With our support, you can streamline the process and be ready for your audit within a matter of weeks.
How long does it take to get approved as an NDIS provider?
Once your audit has been completed by your chosen third party auditing body, they will make a recommendation directly to the NDIS Commission. From here the Commission will review your application and the recommendation made by the auditing body.
The timeframe between audit submission and registration decision vary between new applications and renewal applications, however once a decision has been made you will be advised of the outcome in writing by the Commission.
